First Doom 3 tournament finishes
DOOM 3 FANS HAVE already played their beloved game in an official tournament that ended late Saturday night, Sunday mourning.
In Helsinki, the sauna hearth of Finland, you could play the game that was out just three days earlier in the US market. This was a positive thing as no one could actually learn the levels in such a short time and be skilled with the weapons.
The organ grinders managed to get 5000 players from twenty different countries to be there for a full four days so the monkeys could work and play twenty four/seven.
Asus sponsored this event and gave its 925X and 915P motherboards and was also promoting its PEG (JAKE) marchitecture that makes its PCI Express cards faster. We don’t know what cards or CPUs or graphic cards it was using. Nvidia or ATI, that is the eternal question.
The head of the organisation, one Pekka Aakko, secured $45,000 for prizes and bought many games from a US shop for the event. It's interesting fact that the Finnish launch of the game will take place on the 13h of August.
The rules were easy. The monkey grinders played Deathmatch game with 8 Player – Free For All qualification that each lasted 10 minutes and they where playing FFA Final when the qualification was finished (geddit?!?), that was the plan at least.
