Fatal Flash Flaw Fixed Finally
So, you may have heard that Adobe has provided an updated Flash player, possibly when you went to catch the latest cute baby video on that YouTube knockoff your coworker insists on using and had to sit through five minutes or so of downloading, grumbling the entire time about why this is why HTML 5 has a video tag.
That was because Adobe discovered a serious security hole that would crash systems and allow hackers to hijack your computer. So Adobe took care of it…a week later.
The exploit, referred to as Zero Day, was actually seen “in the wild”, in a .swf file embedded in an Excel spreadsheet. Personally, we’re wondering who downloads an Excel file if they’re not at the office, let alone one with Flash in it, but that’s the Internet for you. This, of course, was Adobe’s cue to tell the entire world and then drag ass fixing the problem so hackers could get at it. None of this, of course, comes up in Adobe’s release notes.
