Amsterdam – 24 May 2016: On the 26th of May, the 7th Annual HITB Security Conference in The Netherlands will kick off with a Welcome Address by Patricia M. Zorko, MPA – The Netherlands Deputy National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism and Director Cyber Security. Held at the NH Grand Krasnapolsky in Amsterdam, Ms Zorko’s 15 minute welcome address is titled “Cybersecurity: A Dance Between Governments, Companies and Hacker Communities.

Ms Zorko has worked for 34 years with the Dutch police holding a variety of posts including head of a community police team, policy adviser, riot squad member, member of the regional management team and district commander. In her last few years she joined the Netherlands Police Agency to coordinate the integration of the National Crime Squad with the International Police Cooperation Service. She then went on to become chief of the National Unit of the National Police. She’s famous for leading the largest and most complex Dutch police investigation ever: the search for the attackers of flight MH17.

Ms Zorko will present her thoughts on the need for international governments, companies and hacker communities to work together to strengthen our digital security, especially in our current era of constantly increasing dependency on technology that’s making us increasingly vulnerable.

This year’s HITB Security Conference will yet again see a diverse set of International speakers and researchers presenting leading edge topics from various organisations around the world, including The National Security Research Institute of South Korea, Google, Linkedin and Facebook amongst others. In the spirit of creating collaborative environments for awareness and education, there will also be presentation of HITB’s “Hack In The Class’ initiative at the open-to-public Community and Security (CommSec) Track. In addition, a technology showcase and exhibition area will also provide members of the public an opportunity to experience and interact with different security communities, hackerspaces and private organisations.
