DSL worldwide figures show Asia is broadband giant

WE'VE HAD PLENTY of email in the last few days from readers about how easy and how difficult it is to get broadband access in their countries.
The latest email, just received this afternoon (see today's letter page), is from Romania, and a reader saying that Greece has it lucky compared to his country. You'll remember a Greek reader told us earlier this week broadband access in the source of western civilisation costs nearly 900 times that in Scandinavia.
But now market research firm Point Topic has released its statistics for the world DSL market for the first quarter of this year.
The firm's statistics show the top 10 DSL countries by number of lines compared to the last quarter of 2002.
Japan is top of the list, followed by the US, South Korea, Germany, China, Taiwan, France, Canada, Italy and Spain.
