Debate continues over security of Windows XP

L33tdawg: What debate? XP is insecure -- nuff said. Just like the Windows of days gone by, users are going to need to keep a watchful eye out for patches when they are made available, and take the time to patch up their machines. Actually, I think with a broadband connection on Windows XP, this task is fairly painless. Just use the Windows Update tool, which allows you to scan the box and patch it all with about 3 mouse clicks. Certainly a lot less painful than patching a Windows NT 4.0 box! *grin*
Differences of opinion continue to swirl over a potentially problematic Universal Plug and Play service in Microsoft Corp.'s Windows XP operating system.
The FBI's National Infrastructure Protection Center last week revised a recent security bulletin, removing a recommendation that systems administrators consider disabling the UPnP service in Windows XP.
After "careful review" of technical materials, the FBI agency stated that it is "satisfied" that a patch corrects a vulnerability that could lead to system compromise and "affords substantial and adequate protection" against the critical vulnerability that could lead to denial-of-service attacks.
