According to the New York Times article below, Dr. Michael Rabin and his Ph.D. student Yan Zong Bing have developed a code they can mathematically prove is impossible to crack. In an electronic world where very little if anything at all has privacy as a guarantee (and really means it), Rabin and Bing contend their code will "keep secret messages secret forever." Pundits range from members of law enforcement who question the effect something like this would have on their duties to professors who believe the concept itself is impractical for real world use.
