CUSTOMERS ATTENDING THE InfoSecurity 2001 show in New York this week are making their security shopping lists and checking it twice, determined to bring normalcy to IT systems thrown into disarray during a year fraught with security threats.
Most recently, many companies are still reeling from Tuesday's mass e-mailing "Goner" virus. During the last year, other serious malicious code attacks, including Nimda, two Code Red viruses, and a ramp up of DdoS (distributed denial of service) attacks have also shaken enterprise confidence in existing security measures. As a result, users are closely re-evaluating security priorities. Lance Smiley, technical services director for Local Oklahoma Bank, made the cross-country trek to the New York show to get a pulse check on what it means to manage IT security within the present tumultuous and unpredictable environment.
