CBI registers a Case Against AIC (Anti India Crew) for hacking CBEC website
The Cyber Crime Investigation Cell of CBI has registered a case u/s 66 of Information Technology Act, 2000 for the hacking of the web site of Customs and Central Excise (www.cbec.gov.in). This case has been registered on the basis of a written complaint received from the Department. This site was hacked on 01.04.2002 by a Hacker group identified as Anti India Crew. The hacker was able to change only the home page of the web site and the hack was detected immediately. This is for the first time that a government department has lodged a complaint about the hacking of its web site.
It has been learnt that during the year 2002, this group has hacked into more than 120 Indian sites and out of which more than 30 sites has been hacked in April, 2002 itself. The important sites claimed to be hacked by this group are of VSNL, Times of India, CMC, All India Radio, South Central Railways, Shimla Telephones, Indian Institute of Petroleum, IDBI, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, University of Rorkee, AIIMS and many other sites hosted by NIC, VSNL and Ernet.
