Blogging platform snapped up by Twitter
Twitter has snapped up Posterous, a blogging platform started in 2008 and known for its slick digital media sharing interface. The value of the deal is unconfirmed however it is believed that all staff will transfer over to Twitter.
Twitter said in a blog post that the Posterous team had built “an innovative product that makes sharing across the Web and mobile devices simple–a goal we share.” Posterous offered an equally glowing tribute in its own blog posting announcing the acquisition. “The opportunities in front of Twitter are exciting, and we couldn't be happier about bringing our team's expertise to a product that reaches hundreds of millions of users around the globe. Plus, the people at Twitter are genuinely nice folks who share our vision for making sharing simpler,” it said.
While Posterous has said that services will continue as normal and that they would flag any proposed changes, it recognizes that some users may want to backup their data and they will issue instructions on how to do so in the next few weeks.
