Apple, Not Microsoft, Is Most Insecure
A report from a Danish software security firm says Apple computers now run the most vulnerable software, and Mozilla Firefox has more vulnerabilities than other popular browsers.
Secunia, which offers security consulting and software to business, outlined the number of common vulnerabilities and exposures, or CVEs, in its half year report for 2010. The company ranked vendors against each other according to how many vulnerabilities they had. The firm also looked at programs from Microsoft, Apple and third parties.
The results were counter-intuitive. The report notes that Microsoft has long had a reputation for security holes, while Apple has often been seen as having fewer security problems. But some of that stemmed from it being a popular target. Now, the focus of many hackers is the third party programs, especially browsers, most people run on their computers.
