Acer launches notebook with built in biometric security

While notebook might spell mobility and convenience, it also spells theft and disaster. Statistics show that 3000 notebooks are stolen in US every year. And if the notebook happens to contain sensitive information, everything goes for a toss.

Acer with its biometric security provision has sought to address that issue with the launch in India of its 739 GTLV. The biometric fingerprint recognition system guards against unauthorized use of the most sensitive encrypted files. Users simply have to record their fingerprints by pressing the sensor built into the palm rest area. During system start-up and when decrypting files in Windows, users are prompted to provide a fingerprint before they can proceed.....

NEW DELHI: Acer has launched a notebook, 739 GTLV with a biometric fingerprint recognition system that guards against unauthorized use of the most sensitive encrypted files. Priced at Rs 1.9 lakh, the 739 GTLV comes equipped with PIII processor with 1 GHz/850 Mhz.

Priced at Rs 1.9 lakh, this is a high-end product, a typical user envisioned would be the CEO of a company. The 739 GTLV comes equipped with PIII processor with 1 GHz/850 Mhz, 128 MB RAM, 20 GB HDD, CD-ROM, DVD-ROM, CD-RW and weighs 3.17 kg. It offers battery life of 4.5 hrs.

Acer today has a 7 per cent marketshare in the notebook segment in the country, which is expected to increase to 9 per cent by the end of this year. Last year the company sold 3,000 units of notebook PC, which is expected to increase to 4,500 units this year. It would focus on the financial market, government, PSUs, SMEs and metro cities to meet its target.

It has service alliances with Cisnet and Digital Solutions which takes care of all the support services to its customers. Acer also has a unique alliance with Expeditors to stock its spares and delivered to different destinations as per requirements.
