You might have thought that a large enterprise such as Sony, having suffered a very high profile and therefore highly embarrassing (not to mention brand damaging) security breach earlier this year, would have done everything it could to ensure there could be no further shocks for its customers.

You would have been wrong though, if this month's news that Sony has locked down 93,000 online accounts is anything to go by.

Hackers Crack PS3 Again With JailBreak 2 (JB2)

Once again hackers are claiming to have jailbroken the PlayStation 3 console after Sony patched an earlier jailbreak hack. The new hack, like the original jailbreak method, uses a USB dongle allowing the pirated PS3 titles to run from Blu-ray discs. The latest hack has been labeled as JailBreak 2 (JB2) by many and is showing up in forums giving instructions on how to perform the hack. The PlayStation Network is NOT affected by this hack.

Questioning Sony's new class-action waiver

The Sony Network Entertainment has added a controversial change to its "Terms of Service and User Agreement" for users of the PlayStation Network and the Sony Entertainment Network (Music Unlimited, Video Unlimited). In the revised terms, consumers must waive the right to participate in any class-action lawsuit filed after August 20 against the gaming and content delivery portion of Sony.

It’s been a couple of months since Sony were in the limelight for all the wrong reasons, with the PSN going down and the Global Hacking scene blowing up.

Many were branding hackers as the bad guys, and while in some cases this is true, sometimes hackers just want to see how far they can push a piece of hardware – to make it do things they were never intended to do.

Sony Names Ex-DHS Director to Oversee Security Strategy

Philip Reitinger, former director of the United States National Cyber-Security Center, a division of the Department of Homeland Security, will be joining Sony as a chief information security officer, Sony said Sept. 6.

The appointment is effective immediately and Reitinger will become a senior vice-president, reporting directly to general counsel Nicole Seligman, according to Sony.

Sony claims rebuilt PlayStation network 'hack-proof'

Sony has rebuilt its PlayStation network to make it hack-proof, the company said as it announced two new tablet computers.

Chief executive Howard Stringer admitted Sony had been overwhelmed and "flattened" by hackers who helped themselves in April to data on an estimated 100 million users of the PlayStation system and Sony's Qriocity film and music network. "That was yesterday," Stringer told a roomful of reporters at the IFA consumer-electronics expo in Berlin.

Zurich Insurance seeking immunity from covering Sony over breach

Sony's insurer is contesting any obligation to cover the electronics giant for costs related to lawsuits filed over its massive PlayStation Network breach earlier this year.

In a complaint filed with the state Supreme Court in New York, Zurich American Insurance Co. is seeking "declaratory relief" from having to defend and possibly compensate Sony over class-action lawsuits or state attorneys general actions filed in response to the breach.

Sony Exec Calls PlayStation Network Hack 'A Great Experience'

The president of Sony Network Entertainment called the four-week outage of the PlayStation Network a "great experience," he said Wednesday. Moreover, he said that sales have been "better than ever".

Tim Schaaff, the president of Sony Network Entertainment sat down with VentureBeat executive editor Dylan Tweney on Wednesday for a wide-ranging chat at the MobileBeat conference here. Tweney asked Schaaff how Sony had recovered from the outage, which dominated headlines for weeks.
