One of the biggest improvements is the addition of automatic updates – this is something that will be welcomes by anyone who likes to ensure that they always have the very latest version installed and is an important security measure as it means that any problems that have been detected with previous versions can be fixed automatically.

Are you using the Skype for iOS app on your iPhone or iPod Touch? Then you need to be aware of how easily your information — particularly your entire address book — could be stolen without your knowledge. All it takes is a single chat message.

According to TechCrunch, the issue was first discovered by AppSec Consulting security researcher Phil Purviance — who claims that he pointed out the vulnerability to Skype about a month ago. A recently-spotted Skype spam operation has put users at risk of falling victim to possible fake antivirus attacks.

The attackers are using automated messages to place calls through the Skype VoIP service. The messages claim to be from a "system update" service and warn the user that their systems is currently lacking adequate security protection.

Skype update for Mac adds Lion support, HD calls

Microsoft-borged Skype says it has outed a new version of Skype for Apple's OSX that will support the weird new Lion update as well as allow Macintoshers to make HD Video Calls

Skype 5.3 for Mac OS X also includes a number of fixes and improvements to the user interface, the outfit said. The update is reckoned to be backwards compatible with past versions of OS X, back as far as Leopard.
