Sales of the Simputer, a Linux-based handheld computer designed by Indian engineers, have languished at about 150 units since the prototype of the product was ready in April last year. But Encore Software of Bangalore aims to change that with upgraded versions of the product to be launched next month.
Encore is introducing at least four versions of the Simputer, according to its chairman, Vinay Deshpande.

Sharp's Linux-based Zaurus handhelds have two security bugs.
The first vulnerability could give a remote attacker full control of the Zaurus filesystem, including the ability to overwrite files and/or programs with trojans.
The Zaurus SLD-50000D and SL-5500 devices are designed for consumers but if used in business, the vulnerabilty supplies a way in to get into corporate systems.

Intersil is working to add wireless networking to handheld devices.
The wireless equipment maker announced on Tuesday that it is working with SyChip to incorporate 802.11b wireless networking technology into a Secure Digital (SD) card for handheld devices.

Cybernetics InfoTech, Inc. (CYBIT), unveiled its MobiVoice attachment to BlackBerry devices Monday as the first of what the company said will be a family of products for wireless PDA applications. The device adds several voice activated functions to the device.
