What technologies will Microsoft open source next and when will it open source them?
Industry watchers have been speculating on these questions since Microsoft released its Windows Installer (WiX) and Windows template-library components under the Common Public License (CPL) — a bona fide open-source license — earlier this year as part of a Microsoft open-sourcing experiment.

Microsoft delays Virtual PC for Macs

Microsoft on Thursday said the next version of Virtual PC for the Mac has been pushed back until October because the company is waiting to bundle in Service Pack 2 of Windows XP into the editions of Virtual PC that come with Windows. The move also delays until October the professional edition of Office 2004 for the Mac, which includes Virtual PC. Microsoft had already delayed Virtual PC, which was originally slated to ship in the first half of this year.

MSN Launches Hotmail Plus - 2GB of storage

Microsoft launched its MSN Hotmail Plus subscription service in 30 markets worldwide today. The upgraded service, as announced in June, offers subscribers, for $19.95 a year in the US, 2GB of storage, the ability to send 20MB attachments, no account expiration, and no graphical advertising. Company representatives say that this service is geared toward customers who want to get more out of their free web-based Hotmail account which now includes anti-virus scanning and cleaning.

Antiphishing group gets help from Microsoft

Microsoft on Wednesday announced that it will donate $46,000 worth of software to an agency fighting phishing and will make a full-time analyst available to the group.

The recipient of these contributions is the National Cyber-Forensics & Training Alliance, an organization set up jointly by the FBI, the National White Collar Crime Center, Carnegie Mellon University and West Virginia University.

MSN Hotmail Storage upgrade in progress - 2GB For Free!

Microsoft have begun increasing free users accounts to 250MB storage and their paid subscribers to 2GB of storage. We exclusively revealed the details of extra storage back in June.
All users are expected to be upgraded by the end of the week *touch wood*.

Update: It appears you can get 2GB of space free by registering an @msn.com email address. We're not sure if this is in error or will be a permanent feature for new @msn.com sign-ups.

IE security problems open doors to friends and foes

Two software developers have opted to take very different approaches to the lack of security in Internet Explorer: one has decided to join Microsoft, the other to beat them. As security software developer Winferno launches an add-on that fills IE's security gaps, UK-based Deepnet Technologies has decided the time is right to release a rival to IE called Deepnet Explorer.

Feds eye next Windows version
