It's been a good while since we've heard any decent Xbox 360-orientated rumours, but much like the great British bus, you wait ages for one and then a load turn up at once.

Top of the list is word from Taiwan of a new Xbox model, the 540, for launch in the autumn of 2009.

It will apparently feature the new Valhalla chip combining processor and graphics, enabling Microsoft to skinny its console down, PS2 style. It's also claimed to be faster and quieter, though there's no mention of the hoped-for Blu-ray drive to bring it in line with the PS3 after the HD DVD debacle.

Vulnerabilities can be found in Mac and Windows versions of MS Office and could be exploited by hackers to gain remote control over a user's computer or install malicious code, according to industry experts at Sophos.

Graham Cluley, senior technology consultant at the firm, said that customers should make use of patching technology developed by Microsoft to deal with the flaws.

When Microsoft officials released a first test build of Internet Explorer (IE) 8 back in March, they said they were intentionally refraining from talking specifics about new security features and functionality that would be part of the next browser release.

In the past few weeks, however, Microsoft has started providing more IE 8 security information via postings to the IE Blog.
