Amid rumors of layoffs and a possible sale of the company, BlackBerry today announced some good news: its growing BBM instant messaging service will be available for Android and iPhone devices in the next several days.

BBM is one of the high points of the failing BlackBerry legacy business, with recent growth in BBM users mainly in Europe and Asia. Until now, BBM has only been available for BlackBerry devices.

Apple doesn't promote enterprise features in its products, instead choosing to be seen as the consumer's champion-but this doesn't mean it doesn't have any.

In fact, Apple's upcoming mobile iOS 7, scheduled to be released to the general public this fall, is chock-full of great stuff for companies. The release will surely please the growing mass of BYOD employees who will be able to enjoy the native iPhone experience whether they're using the phone for personal or business use.

A paper presented at last week's USENIX Security Symposium in Washington described how a group of security researchers at Georgia Tech were able to create a "novel method of attack" that can defeat the mandatory software review and code-signing mechanisms defending apps in the Apple App Store. The title of the paper was Jekyll on iOS.

Late last month, Joshua Hill—aka p0sixninja—unveiled a new project he’s been working on called ‘openjailbreak.’ From what we’ve gathered, it’s an open source jailbreak repository that will allow hackers and developers to work collectively on future jailbreak releases.

It’s not just Hill. There’s a whole team of people working on the project, including popular graphic designer Surenix, who has been working on the website. And while we’re still not sure what to make of the whole thing, it appears that the site has just gone live…

L33tdawg: I have a rough idea on what this might be - maybe ;)

iOS hacker Joshua Hill, more commonly known as P0isxninja, has taken to Twitter to announce that “amazing things” are coming to us all soon. The details of Hill’s latest project are still a mystery, so we have no idea what he’s planning to unveil. But he says “think bigger than jailbreak.”

What could be bigger than a jailbreak for iOS users? Maybe the ability to install custom tweaks and other unauthorized software without having to jailbreak?

Six years after the first iPhone launched, Apple has finally made some major changes to the look and feel of its mobile operating system. Most of these improvements — including the new Notification Center, quick multitasking and Wi-Fi direct transfers — have been available on Android devices for years. So, if you wanted to transfer files quickly between phones, you could have done that just by tapping them together as long ago as 2011 . If you wanted to move quickly and easily between open apps, Android has provided a really great task-switching menu since version 4.0.

The top prosecutors in San Francisco and New York, seeking ways to curb thefts of mobile devices, said Monday they will reserve judgment of Apple's new security feature designed to make it harder to reactivate a stolen iPhone.

San Francisco District Attorney George Gascon and New York Attorney General Eric Schneiderman have been asking the leading wireless device makers to create a "kill switch" that would render stolen phones useless. The prosecutors said they aren't judging Apple's new activation lock feature until they can fully determine its effectiveness.
