For those of you that haven't been kept in the loop, HITB has decided to start up a new monthly interview section in our e-zine. We started this last month in our Interview with the father of the Internet. This month we managed to get in touch with John Westley, Operations Director for The Womb (a site offering a pretty nifty streaming video/dance audio feed 24x7), to ask him more about the site and the technology that drives them.

So that is the new iMac?

While someone at Apple apparently has determined that the garage-sale lamp
idea was a good one, if I was thinking about getting an Imac before I wouldn't
be now.

Besides the fact that the iMac hasn't broken 1ghz, it's ugly. Throw
into that the realization that MacOS X isn't robust enough to handle a real
utilitarian, and the choice here is simple, and it's not me loving an iMac.

Way back in 1988, acorn started producing the archimedes series of desktop
computers. while these werent so successful in the primary business market,
they were very popular in schools. almost any student can recall using one
of these computers at one point of their lives. not so long ago, i happened
to spot an acorn 4000 at school, which had been unused for a long period
of time. being a netbsd user at the time, i went to the site and found that
netbsd/arm26 was being developed for the acorn series.

A lot of times, I hear people asking questions like, how to find out the IP of a friend? Or how to find out your own IP? How do I know, which ports are open on my system? How do I make sure whether my system is infected with a Trojan or not?

Well, for all above questions (and more) there is one simple answer: The Netstat command.

(First off, this article would have made use of the infamous slogan towards “dummies”, but I’d rather not put up with legal issues others have faced because of this.)
