CCC hackers developing satellite system

The threat of Internet censorship has spurred some to seek refuge in space. Hackers at the Chaos Computer Club’s Chaos Communication Congress in Berlin this year proposed an initiative called the Hackerspace Global Grid (HGG), which aims to create and freely make available satellite based communication as a fallback or to bypass stuffy legislation.

AntiSec hackers bare data on Kissinger, Quayle

A "foreign intelligence service" may be exploiting data revealed by a computer hacking group on U.S. intelligence and military officials, a cyber analyst said.

AntiSec, part of the larger hacking organization Anonymous, disclosed information on officials and former officials who subscribe to Stratfor, which provides clients with analysis of national and international affairs. The data include e-mail addresses and other personal data, the Los Angeles Times reported Wednesday.

National University of Singapore servers hacked - passwords reset for some

Hackers infiltrated one of the National University of Singapore's Web servers yesterday, leading to the re-setting of passwords for affected accounts.

The hackers, who call themselves Team Intra, made staff user names, domain information and hashed passwords - the taking of a variable-length password and creation of a cryptic, fixed-length one - public, reported SC Magazine of Australia yesterday.

Famed hacker Kevin Mitnick has seen enough of the inside of a jail to know he never wants to go back. Now there's a backup plan in case he ever finds himself arrested again--a bracelet that has a lock-pick tool for handcuffs.

The bracelet looks like a geeky version of a thick woven hippie bracelet. But hidden inside the clasp is the secret tool that slips inside the lock of handcuffs and opens them. They are $17 on Sally's Cop Shop.

Facebook seeks world champion hacker

Think your programming skills are world class? Facebook wants you to prove it at its second annual Hacker Cup challenge.

"Hacking is core to how we build at Facebook," the company said in a blog post announcing this year's competition. "Whether we're building a prototype for a major product like Timeline at a Hackathon, creating a smarter search algorithm, or tearing down walls at our new headquarters, we're always hacking to find better ways to solve problems."

Apple Users May Witness a Series of Jailbreaks in 2012

As 2011 counts down to its last few hours, there will be a number of people working on Apple's forthcoming mobile operating system - the company themselves, the product users and, obviously, iOS hackers.

Apple Inc. is expected to release at least two new devices in 2012 and a new operating system (popularly tagged iOS 6), as well as a number of updates for the newest current software iOS 5.
