Moscow says no clear proof North Korea stole Russian weapons data
There is no clear evidence that North Korean cybercriminals sought to steal weapons data from Russian defense companies, Moscow has told a U.N. sanctions panel, despite research linking the DPRK to cyberattacks on its ally.
Citing South Korean media, the U.N. Panel of Experts on North Korea reported that the North Korean threat actor Lazarus Group stole information including blueprints of satellite components from Russian company Sputnix OOO in 2022.
The U.N. report also cited U.S. cybersecurity firm SentinelOne’s findings that Lazarus allegedly compromised missile manufacturer NPO Mashinostroyeniya’s internal infrastructure in a separate campaign between 2021 and 2022. In response to a Panel inquiry, Russia stated that “more information is needed” to link North Korean threat actors to the Sputnix attack and claimed that “no evidence has been found” that Pyongyang was behind the Mashinostroyeniya intrusion.
