Four suspects who allegedly caused an Internet failure in six provinces and autonomous regions of China on May 19 were arrested in Jiangsu Province, Xinhua News Agency reported Wednesday.

Starting at 21:50 on May 19, the internet loaded much more slowly in Jiangsu, Anhui, Hainan, Gansu, Zhejiang provinces and Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region. Sometimes, it failed to load entirely. Service returned to normal at about 1:20 am the next day.

Police later found an illegal Internet server had attacked "baofeng.com,” a website that allows users to download a program that plays digital videos. This eventually led to problems with China Telecom’s internet service in the region.
