Police say the 17-year-old accused hacker from Humble Texas, changed and deleted hundreds of thousands of computer files. What's more, they say, he charged as much as $20 a person to as many as 60 students when changing their grades. The school is now left to try to pick up the pieces and put this cyber-situation back together. The Humble School District's technology department has already spent $5,000 in man-hours working feverishly to recover information police say Theodis Butler changed or deleted. Humble ISD Police Officer Eric Squire helped set up a sting operation that ultimately caught Butler when he accessed school computers. "He set himself up as a teacher in our files," explained Squire. "He was going in, editing under his name as a teacher. He had his own ID number." Squire says Butler used school computers to get access to grades, student papers, even addresses and Social Security numbers of students and teachers.

School officials say they are now reevaluating their computer security system to find any potential breeches, though they won't say exactly how this could have been prevented. Humble ISD Spokesperson Karen Collier told Eyewitness News, "Anything that we say about our security systems would give another would-be hacker the opportunity to know how to best attack the system. So we try to be very careful about what information we do release to the nearest 3 million people." With just days now before graduation, the hacking incident disturbs parents. "If he can do that, he can do other things that he shouldn't," worried Anita Dominguez.
