Is WiMAX Losing Altitude?
The WiMAX market may be veering toward a crash landing because of the growth of Long Term Evolution, a fourth-generation mobile technology still in its infancy, according to a report Friday from ABI Research.
Still in favor among venture capitalists and carriers, WiMAX wireless broadband technology has been slow to emerge and has hit a number of detours. That comes after the standard took an unusually long time to complete and has seen rival services such as meshed-Wi-Fi and cellular data technologies such as EDGE and EV-DO come along. On top of that Verizon Wireless and Vodafone have chosen LTE as the next-generation mobile technology.
