Tech detox - getting away from it all
Is a long weekend the time to take a break from your tech?
The phrase "internet addiction" is thrown around too easily these days, but I think it’s fair to say that many of us spend too much time staring at one screen or another. Health experts tend to recommend moderation in all things and, just like an Alcohol Free Day or Week, abstaining from tech for a while might help recharge your batteries.
A tech detox doesn’t necessarily mean going medieval and turning your back on electricity and running water - although some people love to do exactly that on a camping trip. A tech detox could be a simple as leaving your smartphone at home for the day, and perhaps even your wallet and keys. It’s weird at first but that feeling of freedom that comes from walking around with no gadgets in your pockets is quite liberating. I call it technological freeballing and I get to enjoy it once or twice a year when I go away to a caravan park with friends. If you've got kids, even a trip to the playground can be a quick chance to get away from it all.
