MSN Virtual Earth debuts

Just when you thought there couldn't possible be more map-related news, MSN Virtual Earth sticks its head out (and a day early, I might add, as there's no PR from Microsoft yet). MSN VE is squarely aimed at Google Maps, which as reported yesterday went the extra step and added a funk hybrid mode. And lookie there: MSN VE has labeled maps, too.

Virtual Earth has most of the features you'd expect, plus a few others. The big feature is that you can "locate yourself" using your IP address, or using an ActiveX app. Using the IP address failed for me, "locating" me to San Jose, California, which would be cool if I weren't in Boston, Massachusetts. The ActiveX application is far more interesting, so I gave that a shot.
