Mozilla phone will go on sale this year
Mozilla's 'Boot to Gecko' operating system (OS) reportedly will go on sale later this year.
Brazilian blog Ztop reports that Mozilla will release its debut smartphone through operator Telefonica Vivo, having announced the news at a conference today in Sao Paulo.
Announced in July 2011, Boot to Gecko (B2G) is an open source OS based around HTML5 and Javascript, similar to HP's WebOS. Mozilla, of Firefox web browser fame, hopes that Boot to Gecko will offer a viable alternative to the Android mobile OS. "It's an open platform to allow complete control of applications, much like a browser, and applications are installed the way you expect," Mozilla chief executive Gary Kovacs is quoted as saying.
