Hack in The Box Security Conference 2011 (HiTBSecConf 2011) is one of Asia’s largest network security conferences. It’s already in its ninth instalment in Malaysia and it annually brings together top mainstream and underground (blackhat) security specialists. Mobile World (MW) was on the scene to see what’s cooking up on the dark side of the mobile Internet from the experts.

“HiTBSecConf’s main focus is on new and ground-breaking attack and defence methods that have not been seen or discussed in public before,” says Dhillion Andrew Kannabhiran, founder and chief executive officer, Hack in The Box. When and where there’s money involved, you can bet that the criminals aren’t far behind. One of the reasons why HiTB, a legit hacker event, was set up was to encourage knowledge sharing and spread awareness for better cyber security.

This year’s conference featured a 24-hour hackathon, a lock picking village, keynote speech by Dr. Kenneth Geers, cyber subject matter expert from the US Naval Criminal Investigative Service (NCIS) and 4 tracks with over 40 presenters. So, what better way to find some answers than being at the highest concentration of hackers in Malaysia at a given time? MW meets the hackers at HiTBSecConf 2011.
