Microsoft opens up new beta program for Microsoft Security Essentials
Microsoft is readying a new public beta program for its popular Security Essentials application.
The software giant has started to send invites to existing Security Essentials 2 beta testers, inviting them to a future test program on Microsoft Connect. The software maker sent the following email:
“Thank you so much for being a part of the Microsoft Security Essentials v2 Beta. You have indicated that you are interested in receiving invites for Connect programs from Microsoft, so we would like to invite you to participate in the Microsoft Security Essentials Public Beta program on Microsoft Connect. This program is for the newest Beta version of Microsoft Security Essentials which has the latest protection features. Be one of the select few who get access to this Beta release by signing up now to reserve your spot!”
It’s not clear what particular version that Microsoft is planning to test. The company released version 2 of the software in December last year. Microsoft introduced Security Essentials, its free anti-virus software, in September 2009. Microsoft Security Essentials (MSE) is designed to work on Windows XP, Vista and 7 and protects end users against virus threats and spy ware. MSE is Microsoft’s free anti-virus and anti-spyware product that replaced Microsoft’s paid Windows Live OneCare subscription service which was withdrawn in 2009.
