IBM's security acquisition worth $1b
IBM, the world's biggest technology services company, is buying Israeli security firm Trusteer, in an effort to strengthen its security offerings.
A person familiar with the matter said IBM was paying close to $US1 billion for Trusteer, making it the company's second-largest acquisition of a security company after its 2006 purchase of Internet Security Systems for about $US1.3 billion.
Officials with IBM declined to comment on terms of the agreement to buy Trusteer, which has offices in Boston and Tel Aviv, Israel. But in a statement the company said the acquisition advanced the investment IBM was making in cloud-delivered software and services. It claimed the firm's "software can identify security threats that can be missed by traditional security software".
