You’ve heard horror tales about attacks on wireless networks, so how do you go about building a secure Wi-Fi infrastructure? Here’s a guide. The growing number of threats and exploits against a wireless network can be staggering. And with so many reports being churned out on the state of wireless fidelity (Wi-Fi) network security—or the lack thereof—it is no easy task coming to grips with the problem.

Securing a wireless network seems to be a losing battle, what with the various attack and exploit methods at a hacker’s disposal. One is also constantly bombarded with acronyms and claims by vendors that their products will solve all your Wi-Fi security woes.

But there is no such thing as a 100 per cent secure solution, and the sooner you accept this, the better. Unless you have a huge IT budget to play with, most likely, you would be tasked with finding the cheapest solution that gives the best value.

However, buying a product off the shelf could mean you are tied down to a particular vendor. It would be more practical to roll out your own solution if you know exactly which bits do what. And there are several ways to help lock down your network.
