Google threatens to shut down adult blogs with adult advertisements
Google alerted Blogger users today that the company will update its Content Policy to "strictly prohibit the monetization of adult content on Blogger." It warned that blogs "which are adult in nature and are displaying advertisements to adult websites" may be shut down when the new terms take effect on June 30.
Google, like many blogging services, has always allowed adult content on Blogger so long as the blog was properly categorized. The Content Policy rules warn that erotic blogs should not be used as a way to make money on adult content, meaning that “a significant percentage of the content” should not be “ads or links to commercial porn sites.”
Perhaps too many lines have been crossed, or maybe there is some disagreement regarding what is “significant” or what constitutes “making money.” Either way, Google feels the need to make its rules more stringent. Adult blogs with prohibited advertisements will get the axe less than a week after receiving this message.
