Atlanta, Oct. 10 (Bloomberg) -- Cingular Wireless, facing slower customer growth, wants to acquire or merge with a rival to reduce costs of operating in markets where the second-biggest U.S. mobile-phone company doesn't have its own network.
``There's got to be consolidation to plug holes'' in Cingular's coverage, Dave Williams, vice president of strategic planning, said in a telephone interview. ``Any new market brings opportunity. We want to be in every market.''
