Building a Linux-based PVR

Reaper: a nice little how to

The first step in setting up a custom PVR is choosing the appropriate hardware. I wanted a system that would use off-the-shelf components, yet fit in with a normal home theater setup. There are many small computer cases out there, but the one that I found to have the best integration of features is produced by Shuttle. The Shuttle XPC's, as they're called, are barebones PC kits that are roughly the size of a large toaster. They have very efficient heat-dissipation systems that allow for top-of-the-line x86-compatible processors to be used in this small form factor. Overall, they have a reputation for quality design.
