Adobe to address threats in older versions of MS Office
Adobe Systems Incorporated (NASDAQ:ADBE) is planning to address some of the security vulnerabilities of older versions of Microsoft Office, especially that related to hacker threats.
Last week the software company said that it add a pop-up warning to its Flash Player, that will be triggered when possible threats are detected inside documents created with Office 2007 and earlier versions.
“Since…November 2010, the most common Flash Player zero-day attack vector has been malicious Flash content embedded in Microsoft Office documents and delivered via email,” said Peleus Uhley, a platform security strategist, in a Feb. 7 post to the Adobe Secure Software Engineering Team (ASSET) blog. At present flash content is automatically executed on Windows PCs since it is embedded in documents created with Office 2007, Office 2003 and Office XP. Hackers typically exploit this weakness and are able to attack computers due to this.
