The 802.11g WLAN standard offers many important improvements for wireless LAN users – including the faster data rates and robust orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) of 802.11a -- while operating in the same unlicensed ISM frequency range as 802.11b. In fact, backwards compatibility with “b” device products is not only possible, it is a mandatory element of the new “g” standard. The diagram below illustrates key elements of the 802.11 standard and Agere’s participation.
