Russia has climbed up the global spam rating and now ranks third internationally and first in Europe, according to Symantec’s Internet Security Threat Report.

The country’s ever-increasing hacker activity also took Russia up to sixth place in the global Internet malware activity rating. Last year, the country was tenth. Among the top five are the US, China, India, Brazil, and Germany.

Among the most infected Internet areas are blogs and social networks (19.2 per cent), personal websites (15.6 per cent), business and economic websites (10 per cent), music and entertainment portals (3.8 per cent), and porn websites (2.4 per cent).  This year, Russian hackers have already grabbed second place in the global cyber-crime market, pocketing about $4.5 billion in 2011. The figure is almost twice that of the previous year, according to a study prepared by Group IB.
