Hackers are too risky to hire, says security firm boss

Security companies that want to be taken seriously don't hire
hackers, whether their exploits have been for good or bad
purposes, according to Adam Joseph, CEO and president of
Trusecure.

Joseph said hackers undoubtedly have great skills in penetrating
companies' computer systems but he and other security
professionals are working on a different level - the business of
risk prevention.

"We try not to hire current or former hackers. The kind of
companies we deal with, such as financial institutions, don't like to
trust their expertise to someone involved in criminal activity," he
said.

"Some hackers and academics believe they are saving the world
by showing up flaws in a system. Russ Cooper, who we call the
Surgeon-General (and who is well known to NTBugtraq
subscribers), does that by driving Microsoft to fix problems and
giving them time."

Trusecure runs the security testing ICSA labs and has just
launched a managed security service in the UK, based on an
annual subscription.
