Indian hackers sweat to add zing to SMS platform
About 100 hackers from across the country are taking part in a ‘hackathon’ from early Saturday morning to Sunday afternoon. Rest assured, they are not planning something sinister like, say, breaking into top secret government documents and the like; instead they are developing new applications that could be used in an SMS platform.

RBS says UK -- not Indian -- IT staff caused outage
The Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS) has told MPs that its Edinburgh-based IT staff were responsible for the systems failure that affected millions of customers for more than a week last month.
It contradicts media reports that claimed a junior IT worker based in India made the error that led to the IT problem that affected 17 million customers of RBS, NatWest and Ulster Bank.

Hacker groups penetrate sensitive Navy computer networks
Hacker groups have penetrated the sensitive computer networks of the Navy after which an inquiry was launched against naval officers in the Vishakhapatnam-based Eastern Naval Command.
Around seven months ago, a Board of Inquiry (BOI) was ordered against some officers in the Eastern Command after it was found that some of the computer systems were bugged and had been penetrated by hacker groups, Navy officials said.

Indian ISPs targeted in Anonymous censorship protest
The websites of Indian government-run communications company Mahanagar Telephone Nigam and the Internet Service Providers Association of India faced DDoS (distributed denial of service) attacks from Anonymous on Wednesday as some Internet service providers continue to block file-sharing websites following a court order.
ISPs are only following the orders of the court which are supreme, said Rajesh Chharia, president of ISPAI, who was doubtful that the association's website had been affected by the hackers.

Reputed websites under hacker threat: CERT India
Websites of reputed government and private organisations are under threat from hackers, the Computer Emergency Response Team India (CERT-In) has said, warning users to be extra cautious while using the Internet.
"It is observed that some hacker groups are launching distributed denial of service (DDoS) attacks on websites of government and private organisations in India. The attacks may be targeted to different websites of reputed organisations," CERT-In, the national nodal agency for responding to computer security incidents, said in an advisory on its website.
