Over the last few months, this city government's IT department has moved the animal control department out of the pen-and-paper era, reports a pilot fish on the scene.

"They now have a PC in the truck and one in the office, both of which connect back to the main network via VPN," fish says.

"Everything was working well and we showed the officer how to use it. But after a few weeks, the help desk got a call that she was having trouble connecting on both PCs. "I went over to investigate and found that the officer was incredibly busy running around with chores at the shelter. So I asked her to write her password on a Post-It note and I would make sure everything was up and running.
