DDoS: The net is still vulnerable (NO DUH!)

ZDNet has done it again. They have succeeded in posting an article on what is already obvious. They state that the net is still vulnerable to DDoS attacks. Isnt this a bit apparent with the attacks that have been hitting the internet all over the globe?

but you forget, when they arn't as involved in it, they don't know.

Not forgetting the DoS that HITB itself was affected by (although not targetted at us directly) last week and for a bit of this week as well. I still don't really understand why someone would want to flood a server till the point that it's unreachable. What is there to gain from that? You're wasting bandwidth, resources as well as the time of system and network administrators that have to sit around and reconfigure stuff just so that the site is accessible once again. Script kiddies and DoS bunnies should get a life!

this is true. now im not saying hacking a site is right...but if someone defaced microsofts website...that would be funny. when it was DoS'd i was needing to get on there website...and it was bs that because they wanted to make that site unreachable that it affects everyone that has net access. all i needed was some snmp stuff...thats it.

Instead of wasting resources on ignorant follie....why can't they do something that you can learn from...something that makes you think..thats what the game is about isn't it?

I mean any dumbass with a box, half a brain and enough time can go around gathering a list of broadcast addresses to be used for a DoS attack... where's the skill in that?! That being said, it's also surprisingly easy to deface a website these days... Just a quick scan of a handful of addresses and you're bound to hit the jackpot for at least ONE exploit you can use. What happened to the good old days?

I mean it takes time to write your own code and all, but that shows talent...and ambition....these little bastards float accross the net stealing everyone elses code and not learning anything for themselves. I'm ashamed to be labled the same as them...know what I mean?

Yeah I totally get where you're coming from... it's even worse when the media rounds up even script kiddie and 2-bit cracker as "hackers" ... but lets not even get into that whole cracker-hacker debate... or I'll be up all night! :)
